Mr. RICHARD A ENGELHARDT
UNESCO Regional Advisor for Culture for Asia and the Pacific, USA

Richard A Engelhardt was educated in anthropology and archaeology at Yale University and Harvard University. For the past 30 years, he has directed archaeological and urban heritage conservation projects throughout Asia and the Indo-Pacific region. In 1981, he joined the United Nations system and has worked with the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, as well as a number of UN Specialized Agencies. From 1991-1994 he opened and directed the UNESCO Office in Cambodia, where he launched the international safeguarding campaign for Angkor. In recognition of his services in the preservation of the Angkor Monuments, H.M. King Norodom Sihanouk awarded him the title of Commandeur de l’Ordre Royal du Cambodge. In addition to his Cambodian knighthood, Sir Richard has been decorated by the governments of China (Honorary Citizenship), the Philippines (Cavaleri do Ciudad Fernandina de Vigan), and Viet Nam (People’s Culture Hero) for his services to the conservation of cultural heritage. He has also been honoured by the Global Heritage Fund with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the conservation of the world’s heritage.
Currently Mr. Engelhardt is UNESCO Regional Advisor for Culture for Asia and the Pacific, based in Bangkok, where he heads UNESCO’s culture sector programmes for the Asia-Pacific region. His latest publication, published by UNESCO in August 2007 is Asia Conserved, in which he analyzes the lessons learned from the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Conservation Awards programme and their application to sustainable urban management.

   
 

Dr. Andrew Platten, BSc(Hons), PhD, FCIOB

Dr Andrew Platten is Project Manager with Elevate East Lancashire. Elevate East Lancashire are one of the nine Housing Market Renewal Pathfinders in England. Dr Platten leads Elevate’s Constructing the Future (CtF) project, which focuses upon the development of skills and knowledge for successful regeneration.
Dr Platten studied at UMIST and gained the titles of BSc(Hons) in Building Technology and PhD on the subject of mass transfer in porous building materials. He is formerly Head of Department of Built Environment at the University of Central Lancashire.
Dr Platten is currently the chair of the Chartered Institute of Building Accreditation Panel. He is a trustee of the American Council of Construction Education, advisor to the National Board of Construction Management Education in China and honorary chair of the Centre for the Urban and Built Environment at the Hong Kong College of Technology. As visiting Professor at the University of Salford, he has written over 40 academic papers. Andrew is also a member of the scientific editorial committee for the International Journal of Construction Management.

Professor Keith Alexander is Director of the Centre for Facilities Management (CFM) and has a Chair in Facilities Management in the School of the Built Environment. He is a member of Salford University’s 6* rated Research Centre for Built and Human Environment (BuHu). Keith has been at the forefront of developments in education, research and practice in Facilities Management for over twenty five years.
Keith created and directs the Centre for Facilities Management (CFM), which has operated as a University-based research unit and network of blue-chip companies (Facilities Management Foundation) in the United Kingdom over the past seventeen years.
Keith has broad, direct experience of FM practice, through working with FM Foundation member organisations to improve business performance through effective FM strategy, tactics and operations.

Keith currently directs a major, EU funded project to transfer the expertise and experience gained from this work, to small and medium enterprises and local groups for community benefit, as part of regeneration in NW England.

     
 

Yasuhiko Tamura
Graduate school of oceanic architecture and engineering of the Nihon University in 1996. Worked at Akamatsu-Sugano architectural and engineering design office. Main design works are Mukoh-jima Police Station seismic retrofitting (Sumida-ku, Tokyo), Hama-cho Park Public Toilet (Chuo-ku, Tokyo). In 2000, joined to International Conference “Mega City 2000” as a coordinator, Observer member of Hyper Building Committee, and Member of Super High Rise special committee of AIJ (Transportation WG). Research activities are Living Style difference between Tokyo and HK etc. Established architectural design and researching office “ys architects” in 2001. Main works are Welfare housing, Condominium, etc. Our design motifs base on Modern Japanese life style.

     
 

Ecosistema Urbano
Mr. José Luis Vallejo and Ms. Belinda tato Serrano, Spain

Ecosistema Urbano is an architecture and engineering team that focuses on the research and ecological design of new architecture projects that understand sustainable development as a resource for innovation and enthusiasm.
They are design studio professors in the School of Architecture of Madrid and visiting professors at several universities in Spain, South America, Asia and United States (Cornell, California, Arizona, Yale, Beijing, Shanghai, Tongui,).
They have received more than 22 awards since the year 2000 in national and international architecture design competitions. On the last year 2005, they have received top recognition for their work, including the European Acknowledgement Award from the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction (Geneva, 2005) and the selection as one of the “Top ten spanish architects under 40” by the Antonio Camuñas Foundation. In 2006 they have received the Architectural Association and the Environments, Ecology and Sustainability Research Cluster Award (London, 2006). In 2007 they are finalist for the European Mies Van der Rohe Prize, the Zumtobel award 2007 for Humanity and Sustainability in Architecture and Built Environment and they are selected for the exhibition in the Spanish Pavilion at the Expo Zaragoza 2008 with 12 international offices.
